Indi Sexena
Jr. Landscape Designer
Growing up in Lakeland, Florida, he developed a fascination with palm trees at an early age. He spent much of his childhood outdoors discovering new palms, then going home to research everything he could about them. That interest in plants eventually led him to Miami University in Ohio, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Botany in 2022.
During college, he also discovered a love for painting and ceramics, spending six semesters working with clay. Combining his interest in plants with his creative side led him to landscape architecture. He went on to earn a Master’s of Landscape Architecture from the University of Georgia in 2026, spending two summers along the way interning at a landscape design firm in Sarasota.
As a teenager, he first discovered Craig Reynolds’ work through an HGTV special featuring his Secret Garden project and became an admirer of his designs. Twelve years later, he found himself working alongside Craig in Key West. Not something he would have imagined back then!
“We experience landscapes every day, whether we realize it or not, and they have a real effect on how we feel. I love that residential landscape architecture gives us the chance to create places where people will spend time with family and friends and make memories for years to come. And the fact that I get to work with plants every day makes it even better. It's hard to complain about a job like that, especially in Key West!”
Favorite Plant?
That's a tough question for someone who has been obsessed with palms since childhood. I've always loved the silvery blue fronds and impressive stature of a Medjool Palm, but lately I've developed a real appreciation for the understated beauty and toughness of Coccothrinax and Thrinax palms. Coconut Palms were my childhood favorite, and I still love them. And while it's not technically a palm, the architectural form of Pandanus is hard to beat. Clearly, I'm not very good at picking just one.
